Silver Lakes Week 4 August 7, 2017

Hello!

It has been another great week here in Florida! I just love this place! Even though it is getting super super hot, the sunsets and the flowers and the people all make up for it.

We have had a really slow week, not a lot of people to teach. What broke our hearts was when Sergio (the man that unexpectedly showed up to church last Sunday with his wife) called us one morning and said that he was not interested in learning more. We don't know what changed, but we were sad to hear it. We dropped by their house, but they weren't home so we left them each a Book of Mormon with a little note. We know that someday they will get baptized! It is just not their time yet.

One cool thing that happened was when we were going to share a message with a lady in our ward named Sister Sylva. I have so much respect for her. Her husband used to be a bishop, but he has become less-active. She comes to church every single week by herself, and is one of the most faithful people I've ever met. We made them cookies, and were planning to sneakily invite her husband to eat cookies with us and then share the message. As we were praying in the car before we went inside we both received the impression that the message we had originally prepared was not what we needed to share. So, we both sat there for a minute thinking of what to share instead, and we both came up with the same Mormon Message called "The Hope of God's Light." We went inside, and Brother Sylva arrived home from a bike ride just as we walked in. Miracle #1. We asked him if he would like to join us, he hesitated, but agreed to listen after he changed. Miracle #2. They both opened up to us a lot, and we were able to establish a good relationship with him. Then we shared the video. The Spirit was so strong, and afterward we had them each share some of their thoughts. Without us even asking, Brother Sylva opened up to us about how he came to know God existed, and the first time he met the missionaries. Miracle #3. They both enjoyed the visit, and the cookies. He did not come to church yesterday, but we are determined to keep working with him! He definitely felt the Spirit during our visit and we were very grateful for the prompting we'd received.

Another miracle we saw was when we were on our bikes. We were biking through a little trailer park around 3 in the afternoon, it was very hot, and there were not a lot of people outside. We spotted a man in the distance walking his dog, so we went over to talk to him. He introduced himself, and we were so excited when he did it in Spanish! We had not had a lot of luck with finding Spanish people that day. We got talking to him, and he started asking us all about our missions and what we do. We explained to him, and he told us some of his beliefs as well. Somewhere in there, he mentioned that he really likes to read, and I had the thought to give him a Book of Mormon. We ended up explaining the Book of Mormon to him, and he was very excited to read it. He declined a return appointment, but he said that he knew it was not a coincidence that we had run into him because he was brand new in the area, and he never walks his dog at that time of day. Sometimes it's the small miracles that are just so amazing, I love how Heavenly Father helps us to be in the right place at the right time. Even though we don't always see the fruits of our efforts or our sacrifices right away, it is just a blessing to be able to serve the Lord.

Nothing else too exciting this week, but we are expecting more miracles this next week! I can't believe it is already the end of another transfer. I guess time flies when you are having fun. I love you all!

Love, Hermana Monson
